Srinagar: Noted Socio-political activist Malik Asif Noor on Saturday joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) along with his supporters. The party president, Mehbooba Mufti welcomed Mr Asif and his group into the party fold.
Senior party leaders, Tariq Hameed Karra, MP, Syed Altaf Bukhari, candidate for Amirakdal constituency, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, district president and MLC; Abdul Hameed Kohsheen, State secretary and party leaders Altaf Ahmad Dar, Haji Parvaiz and Shuja Sarwar besides large number of Senior Workers were also present on the occasion.
Asif is an engineer by profession, who has completed his studies from the erstwhile Regional Engineering College, Srinagar. He served for almost two decades in different multinational companies at the national level. Asif is a known social activist who not only has been organizing free medical and awareness camps but also leads other innumerable drive which include sanitation and hygiene, de-worming drive, free ration distribution among needy and poor in the area.
Welcoming Asif into the party fold, the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said the fact that the PDP is attracting talent from all sections of society including businessmen, professionals, youth and intellectuals augurs well for the politics of the state. She said PDP by way of its pro-people policies has become a natural choice of every section of the society particularly the youth.
Inviting people particularly youth to join the party, Mehbooba said people with concern for the society and its problems should come forward and become part of the PDP where they will find the right atmosphere and platform to contribute positively to the political discourse and development of the state. “Our party is committed for the people’s cause and will always uphold their aspirations and sentiments,” she added.
The PDP Chief said it was heartening that apart from intellectuals and professionals, educated youth were joining the party fold in order to bring about complete change in the present system.
Addressing the function Member of Parliament, Tariq Hameed Karra said the doors of the PDP for the people like Asif who want to contribute in the party’s efforts to see Jammu and Kashmir out of the present uncertainty and gloom. Karra said it was only because of the people’s support that PDP could write a new chapter in the state’s history, which will enable the party to take forward its unfinished agenda of political resolution and good governance.
Senior party leader and candidate for Amirakadal constituency, Syed Altaf Bukhari expressed his satisfaction at the increasing appeal of PDP and its agenda among the informed sections of society. He exhorted hope that Asif’s joining will strengthen the party in Amirakdal constituency.
Speaking on the occasion, Asif said he was impressed by the agenda of the party which aims at bringing in a change in the mindsets about the problems facing Jammu & Kashmir. He said he was also so influenced by the leadership of the party which is working selflessly in order to bring about a complete change in the exploitative system that has impacted adversely several generations of the people.
