Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday pressed for declaring Mughal road as a national highway and heritage road.
Moving a resolution in this regard in the Legislative Assembly (LA), senior party leader and MLA Darhal, Chaudhary Zulfikar Ali said the historic road which connects two important regions-Kashmir Valley and Pir Panchal- of the state has helped a great to the people by providing them alternate road connectivity. He said the ruling National Conference-led government has failed to upgrade and develop the road after it was handed over to it by the private company. “So many unfortunate mishaps have occurred on the road resulting into loss of previous lives after its takeover by the state government from the private company,” Zulfikar told the House.
Giving credit to the party patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for the opening of the road, the PDP legislature said it has to develop as an all weather road so that the people won’t suffer in the winters when it is closed for the vehicular traffic. He said there are diverse places of attraction and heritage structures in the Mughal road region and it needs to be promoted as heritage road to give boost to tourism. The resolution reads: “This House impressed upon the Government of India to declare Mughal road as a national highway and develop it as heritage road.”
